My opinion is that connecting learners in a global world is better for us because it unifies our world and therefore will gradually lead to advancement in both communications and technology. It outweighs any drawbacks and allows our population to flourish and grow by allowing us to share our understanding on how to conserve natural resources. Establishment of virtual communities can lead to an open communication and shared knowledge.

I chose this question because I use all different types of technology. However, parents warn their sons or their friends against becoming addicted to technology. Without technology we won’t be able to connect with other people from other countries. Using the technology in our present world means that lots of people are being allowed to be connected with other people and talk about issues and solutions in our society.

One of the issues that global learners can discuss is the disadvantages of technology such as that of people becoming lazy. Most of our school work, such as math equations, is done by technology and therefore we don’t use our brains very often. Several health concerns come from people our age using technology for entertainment. They spend all their time playing on the computer that they become unfit and obese. Children now are spending more times in doors then outdoors, and all outside areas are empty for example (the park, football fields) and so on.

Other topics that can be discussed are the replacement of people by technology. Technology is putting people out of jobs. For example, a worker has a certain part for his job, and his job is to close all the bottle caps, and he’s doing the job well, but the next day he gets a letter from his company saying that they don’t need his services anymore, and the reason why they don’t want his service anymore it’s not because he’s not educated but it’s because the company has more efficient technology, that does the job, 10 times faster. Further, the product has a more professional look and therefore it is easier to sell.

Connecting learners in a global world allows us to raise our awareness about these issues and perhaps, foster new values on valuing people while still keeping up with technology.
