Ways to save the Earth

Global resources are very valuable resources in this world. We tend to use these resources faster and more than we are supposed to use them. Therefore, many of them are going to be totally depleted very soon.

Global resources include coal, oil and fossil fuels. These are things that are really useful to us and they are depleting really quickly. These resources can help us do many things. They supply us with electricity and many other things that we require. Can you imagine what the world would be like if there were no electricity? We would be back to the olden days. Would we, as the new generation, want to live the lives that our ancient ancestors used to? Do we want to use stones to create fire again? I think I can already hear you protesting: 'No way!''

Of course, many people ask, what is the point of us trying to conserve our resources for future use? We need them now and therefore we should not worry so much about the future. That is, in my opinion, a really ridiculous thought that some people have. I am not saying that we have to cut off the use of these resources. However, I believe that we should use them in moderation. If we use them in moderation, we get to enjoy the benefits of these resources, yet get to save some for later use as well.

In order to get electricity, we have to burn fossil fuels. This adds to the excessive amount of greenhouse gases that are already present in the atmosphere. This will cause global warming. When global warming occurs, many things may happen. This includes a rise in water levels. This may cause a lot of islands, which are now at sea level, to submerge.

Can you imagine the amount of destruction we are causing to our Earth? I believe that, despite the fact that we want to live with the comfort that we get from these global resources, we should do so in moderation so that the amount of destruction caused is not as disastrous.

Conserving global resources is definitely not something that a person is able to do alone. This requires the cooperation of all the people around the world. If each person were to use one less plastic bag, can you imagine the number of plastic bags saved all over the world? I believe that using less plastic bags is one way in which everybody can help. I think that the supermarkets and places that provide plastic bags when they sell items should encourage people to bring their own bags. They can give people a rebate of 10 cents for every plastic bag saved. This will help to prevent too many plastic bags being used. If a person is not really very comfortable with bringing their own plastic bag, plastic bags should still be reused to carry things when going on outings, for example. They can also be used for many other things, such as lining the dustbin. We can also reuse paper, such as worksheets, for use as rough paper to just take down notes.

Another way of helping is to recycle the things that we can. We can always recycle the newspapers, plastic bottles and metal cans. There are recycling bins in many areas. We can always throw items that can be recycled into the appropriate bins. All that it requires is the few minutes to separate these items from the other rubbish, which cannot be recycled. By doing so, we are helping to stop the need to keep on creating new items for use.

Other than these, we can also help by taking public transport more often and cut down on the use of cars. This will help to reduce our use of petrol. For example, instead of petrol needed for 40 private cars, only the amount of petrol for a bus is needed. At the same time, the amount of carbon monoxide, which is a type of greenhouse gas, can be decreased. This is really killing three birds with one stone.

Therefore, based on the above, I believe that if each person makes an effort, we will be able to make the Earth a place that is more conducive for our stay, as well as for the lives of future generations.
