Global resources: Why we should be concerned

Before we talk about global resources, we must know what they are. These resources, which are given to us by God's grace, are called natural resources. We all know that we are global citizens, so our prime duty is to protect our planet, to save our ecosystem, environment, and our resources.

In the words of the poet Tennyson, 'The old orders change the yielding place to new'. He also said, 'Science and Technology is also the gift to mankind. It is a good servant but a bad master'. It has brought a revolution in the field of communications, enabling us to communicate with one another easily and to see the planet as one global whole. We should save our resources without any conflicts with other countries. If resources are senselessly exploited in a country, the atmosphere is polluted, and water is wasted, then sooner or later, it affects the whole planet.

Nowadays, it is seen that we are continuously exploiting our resources of coal, petroleum, air, water and land. It not only brings degradation to our country, but it will also mean that we will soon be left without any resources. It is said, 'God has given enough resources for man's needs but not for man's greed'. People often have selfish aims, which will then threaten the life of future generations.

If we really want to conserve our resources and protect our planet, we have to become very committed to dealing with the issues. It is a serious problem. We have to find practical solutions. First of all we have to reduce air pollution. All the factories should be shifted far away from the cities, so as to diminish carbon emissions in the air where most people live. This step should be taken at a global level, as air pollution is the burning problem of today's world.

The increasing population is also a big problem. The only resolution to this is to create awareness and education about causes, effects and solutions.

We all know that only 0.01% of water in this world is fresh and fit to drink. We cannot survive if there is no clean water available. An environment technology company involved in research, development and manufacturing of products, estimated that up to 45% of water is lost from open water storage and through transport systems. If we are global citizens, then we have to solve all of these problems.

We can protect our planet if we fight all these troubles globally. All these problems require international cooperation and devotion without any self-interest conflicts between different countries. Let us take a pledge to take our planet out of these devastating tribulations. If we succeed in tackling these global problems, our Earth will indeed become a 'heaven'.
