Ideas to help protect our planet

Human beings, just by going about their daily lives, inevitably affect the environment. Nowadays, gadgets have become an integral part of our life. We think of them as a means to make life better and easier and without them we seem to be crippled. But we must remember that the resources that our Mother Earth has provided us with are diminishing very quickly and will soon reach the state when we will just be able to read about them in books. Therefore, we need to find out ways we can replenish these resources and also how to minimise the use of non-renewable resources.

Scientists and environmentalists are worried about the increasing use of natural resources. The rapid increase in population and consumption is adding fuel to the fire. The irrational use of resources is making an unprecedented assault on the environment, leading to irreversible, and perhaps catastrophic, effects. The world has already exhausted more than half of its resources, and there will soon be none left. The only question, which arises is: 'How can we save these resources?'

All of us can save our Mother Earth by using simple but effective methods. As mentioned earlier, technology can be an energy hog but, on the other hand, it can help us to conserve our resources. Instead of using high energy and expensive appliances, all of us should prefer using energy saving appliances, because they consume less energy. We should always try walking, taking public transport or riding a bike, rather than automatically using a car. Try opting for Hybrid cars, which run on biodiesel (oil extracted from vegetables and fruits).

Recycling really makes a difference. The extra effort not only transforms tonnes of waste into useful goods, but it also helps to solve the problem. Use of inexhaustible sources, such as sunlight, wind energy and tidal energy, seem expensive to install right now but when used in bulk they are going to prove to be more profitable in the long run. Energy produced from sunlight and wind energy will decrease our dependency on fuels, such as coal and petroleum, and would even be pollution free. Carpooling is one of the easiest practices to save fuel, but is it really implemented?

Apart from ourselves, the Government also has some debts to pay to Mother Earth. Each year many new policies are made to conserve the environment but very few of them are properly implemented. We have to make our representatives know how much we care for our environment.

All the above methods for protecting our environment are totally a waste unless we understand the intensity of the problem. By being global citizens, we all should have the sense of responsibility to do everything possible to make this Earth a better place to live.
