We need to protect our resources
Maharaja Man Singh Vidyalaya
India
God created the Earth. He was happy but not satisfied, so he created plants, rivers, mountains and valleys, oceans and continents. He was content but still not satisfied and alas, he created animals. That was the time when things slipped out of his control and about a million years later along came humans. Humans thought this planet was their empire and slowly and steadily started modifying it according to their whims and fancies.
After the industrial revolution there was a drastic change in the environment. Humans started digging the earth more, felling trees, poaching animals, and using more and more machines. Conditions started to change and there has been no end to this ever-growing demand for raw materials. Due to this ‘development', Mother Earth has paid dearly. She is being robbed of her vast treasures. We are using the resources blindly and ignoring the consequences.
It is high time that we listen to the planet's cry. This matter is no longer merely a national issue but a global concern. We must come forward as global citizens and raise awareness regarding the importance of resources and their predicted shortage. We must spread the message of 'reuse, reduce and recycle'. The sole way to protect resources is to protect nature. Our road to development is taking a heavy toll on both.
Governments should strive for sustainable development. The youth of today is the generation with immense potential and they should come forward and fulfill their duties as fellow earthlings to save resources.
All I can say is that we must strengthen our bonds with nature to protect our resources. We cannot get back what we've lost, but we can conserve a little of what is left.
