How to achieve global equality

Global equality will be achieved if we close the gap between the rich and poor. In order to do this the rich should take initiatives to solve and eradicate poverty in the world today. There are a few ways to work towards achieving global equality. According to the 'Global Call to Action Against Poverty' (GCAAP) we need to increase public accountability and the fulfilment of human rights, ensure trade justice and have a major increase in the quantity and quality of aid and financing for development. However, from a student's point of view, I would like to elaborate on the point of increasing the quantity and quality of aid and financing development.

Firstly, we can increase the quality and quantity of aid from donations. Governments can donate monthly to the Red Cross association. With sufficient funds, the Red Cross will be able to bring basic needs such as food, clothes, and clean water supplies to the poor in third world countries such as Ethiopia. Also, there are 40% of African kids who suffer from starvation. Thus, with our donations to UNICEF, they will be able to meet the daily needs of the children suffering from starvation. Moreover, if associations such as the Red Cross and UNICEF have sufficient funds they will also be able to build homes and strong foundations for homeless children. Homeless children in third world countries are often depicted as starving and living with torn and tattered clothes. This situation shows global inequality and it is estimated that there are about 200 children dying of starvation daily.

Apart from donations we have to send volunteers to help the poor in third world countries. Groups of volunteers should be sent to places such as India and Ethiopia. Perhaps, our government can encourage students to help and teach the children there. Rather than going to outward-bound schools, students may take that time off to experience what the poor are actually experiencing. This will certainly give them an insight into the poverty in third world countries. As a result, our future leaders will be able to close the gap of global inequality and promote global equality. These experiences will remind everyone of us to save and treasure what we have today. Hopefully, students will take part of their pocket money and donate to organisations in order to help the poor.

In conclusion, financial help is indeed important to eradicate poverty. However, we have to understand what the poor are experiencing today and contrast this with the lives we have today. With this knowledge, we will then be able to have new ideas to solve the problem of global inequality today.
