Gandhi's inspiration for global peace

My name is Lavanya and today I will talk to you about global peace. How can we bring peace to this planet? There is a famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi: 'Where there is Love, there is Life and Peace. Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. You must be the change that you want to see in the world!'

What do you think global peace means? Global peace means that we, the people, should stop wars, live in harmony and be cheerful and happy. To do that we need to bring peace to the countries that are in conflict. We should also accept all the religions for their positive values and visit different places of worship, such as temples, mosques and churches. That way all of us will mix and won't have a problem with each other. If we have a fight we should sort it out by ourselves, instead of involving other people and making it a bigger fight.

There are many prominent personalities who took positive action to bring peace to their country and other countries. Two such great people were Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. Mahatma Gandhi used peaceful methods to achieve independence for India. We want to follow in his footsteps and use similar methods to bring peace to the world.

Nelson Mandela fought against apartheid by peaceful means. We should also discourage apartheid and ensure that we help underprivileged people.

To have global peace we also need a very healthy environment. Countries should not pollute the water and air. They should preserve the greenery and trees. If the environment gets polluted, people will not be healthy and there would be no global peace.

I wish to conclude my essay by quoting Elena Roosevelt:

It is not enough to talk about peace, one must believe in it,
And it is not enough to believe in it, one must work for it.
