Global peace: Act locally, think globally
Maharaja Man Singh Vidyalaya
India
Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in a flood caused by senseless deforestation in a neighbouring country. Global peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed and where individual nations are free. Peace is a power by which we can make our enemies our friend.
We, as human beings, need peace and we should join hands with each other for the restoration of peace. Although, it is a difficult task, it is essential for the survival of humanity. History has proved that wars bring the destruction of property and humanity. Thousands of warlords have emerged in recent centuries and have fought for their own interests. Lord Buddha stated that in the end, all those who have struggled for peace will remain alive forever. I also believe that every nation, religion and faith should be respected. I believe that everyone, black or white, from the third world or the first world, has an equal right to live.
Destructive acts everywhere, in any part of world and in any shape, are to be condemned. The massacre of human beings and destruction, whether in Asia, Europe or America, should be prevented. Fighting, narcotics and racism are also evil.
In order to achieve peace it is important that we respect all faiths, religions, cultures, thoughts and the national territorial integrity of all independent countries. We need to think and speak about peace and spread the message of peace. We need to acknowledge the following ideas.
- Human beings were created by the Almighty. We also believe that honouring others through pleasant manners could provide a platform for global peace.
- Human beings are free to solve all crises through dialogue instead of war, owing to our wisdom and intellectual superiority.
- The world is a global family with different religious, cultural and ethnic values. We wish to bridge these differences through negotiations.
- Dialogues between people about faith, culture and ethnicity can help to devise different ways and methods by which we can work for the establishment of a world where there is no discrimination, war, violation of humanity or any other social diseases.
- War against humanity with weapons is like the use of narcotics against humanity. Racism is also like these menaces, which just eliminate human beings in different ways. We are trying to build a strong unity so as to eliminate the root causes of the problems.
- A series of negotiations among the different groups claiming themselves as the stakeholders of different conflicts can help to find a suitable solution for these conflicts.
I pray from deep inside my heart that there shall be:
No more dead bodies
No more innocent victims
No more lost souls
No more discrimination
No more racism
No more terrorism
No more fear
No more wars.
There is a place inside each of us where peace can be built. By loving each other despite who we are and how we look, speak, or think is one way to do it. We are all humans and together we can learn how to love and we can achieve peace, but it starts within.
If you want peace, don't talk to your friends, talk to your enemies.
