Why do people fight in wars?

People fight in wars because of many different reasons. People fight to capture land belonging to another country because of resources like oil and precious diamonds. People also fight to protect their own religious or political viewpoints.

What is peace?

Martin Luther King once said, 'Peace is more than simply the absence of war, it is the presence of justice'. This means that even if people stop going to war, there is not necessarily peace. However, when there is justice, there is peace. Mahatma Gandhi once said, 'There is no way to peace, peace is the way'. This means that you can't get to peace. Peace is what you already should have. Peace is when the whole world acts like one happy place where people can live wherever they want and share everything they have with anyone else.

After wars, how do countries or states get rebuilt?

During a war, there is usually a lot of destruction. Schools, houses, hospitals, roads, restaurants, malls, shops, and buildings are all destroyed. People lose their homes and are forced to live on the streets. Lots of people die from hunger or different sicknesses. Lots of money is required to rebuild all of these places and resettle the people. However, the countries that are destroyed may not have the money to pay for workers and professionals to rebuild the destroyed places. So the countries that are destroyed have to borrow money from friendly countries. However, talented workers are hard to find, because they usually run away during the war. So the countries have to ask for help from friendly countries and try to motivate the workers and professionals who ran away to come back.

Why can't people in the world stop fighting each other?

Why can't everyone be like Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi? Why can't people just work towards peace and justice? They can't because they are selfish. They want more oil and resources for a lower price. If they don't get the resources at the price they want, they may wage war against the country they are buying from. Being selfless is the first step towards peace.

Why do you have to start fighting if you don't get what you want? Why can't you just try to reason with them and talk to them? If someone ever fights with you, you would probably feel mad or sad. If that person were bigger than you, you would feel scared. That's exactly the same way the people in the country being attacked feel. People should learn to reason with each other in order to settle their differences.

What would you feel if you were living in the place that was being attacked? What would you feel if your relatives had been shot, your house had been bombed and you were forced to live on the streets trying to look for food and water? You would probably feel very scared, sad and angry.

Nearly 30 wars are going on right now in the world. That is really hard to believe.

In 1918, at the end of World War One, people called it, 'the war to end all wars'. People wanted World War One to be the last time that thousands of people died in a conflict. However, in 2007, more than a thousand women, men, and children are getting killed every day. Most of the people killed in wars are children.

People should vote against wars. They should protest against wars. If people would conserve natural resources, learn how to be friendlier towards each other, and learn more about the world there would be peace on Earth. If there were more people who would do this the world would be peaceful.
