Global peace: How can we bring global peace to our planet?

We've had wars for a long time. Whether we've had wars for 50 years or 5000 years it doesn't matter. We have had wars for land, riches, ego, enmity, money, resources, and even fame. Humankind has always fought wars over religion too. Why is that? I do not know. I thought we should be happy about our religion and respect all religions.

At the moment though we still have wars. One example is the war, which has been going on forever, between India and Pakistan. We also have the war between the U.S.A and Iraq. We have also had unforgettable terrorist attacks like the one on the World Trade Center and Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

We have had two world wars already. With the technology we currently have available, another world war could wipe us all out. Wars aren't only bad because of the number of people dying in battle. They are also bad because of the long-term impact on families, societies, and the economy. A country may have to build new infrastructure and businesses if the war is really bad. Should a family or society suffer just because of a prime minister or president or king who wants fame.

We have lots of organisations like United Nations and the Red Cross that try to help achieve world peace, but out of all of them the most prominent one is UN. All of the organisations like this try hard to stop wars, bring the world together, and have global peace. They also help rebuild after war.

We need global leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, or Nelson Mandela, or even Martin Luther King Jr. Each of these individuals did something important to help spread peace. Gandhi helped India gain its freedom and Nelson Mandela helped free South Africa of apartheid. Martin Luther King Jr. helped the African Americans be treated as well as the white Americans.

They say the world is globally connected. If it is then global peace should be easier to achieve. Global peace means working together, and not fighting. It does not mean people do not disagree, or become vegetables. It is just about having healthy debate and dialogue, not shooting the next missile.

There are lots of things we can achieve if we achieve global peace. We can invent new things or share and save our resources instead of fighting over them. If we have war, half the people on Earth aren't happy, but if we don't have war everyone will be happy. There have even been songs about world peace sung by great singers like Michael Jackson. Great singers have also joined together to help achieve world peace. There is even an International Day of Peace. It is on September 21st and it was declared by the UN in 1981.

I hope that great leaders emerge to ensure that our world is safe for future generations. As global citizens, we must also strive to maintain peace and harmony in our lives.
