Global peace and how to achieve it

We all know that global peace is very important for us. It is an issue that has been discussed with the aim of achieving it for several years. People have been trying to stop conflicts and wars and bring peace to the world.

First, we have to look at the issues that relate to global peace. Why do people fight? This is a fundamental question in people's minds. There are many reasons for conflicts. Sometimes, people conquer other countries for land. This is because they want all the natural resources present in that area, such as oil, diamonds and minerals. People might also fight because they dislike what their leaders are doing. They also might fight to protect their country's own borders. People who have different views might fight to protect or promote their religious, political or cultural viewpoint.

An example of a huge conflict that occurred was World War Two. The main cause of this war was Adolf Hitler's desire to conquer land from most of Europe, especially from the countries around Germany. Hitler invaded Poland and that is how the war started.

In 1918, when World War One ended, people thought that it was the end of most of their miseries. Unfortunately, that was not the case. There are many small and big conflicts still happening now. In order to have peace in the world, we have to stop people from dying due to violence and conflicts. Today, several people die every minute due to conflicts and violence. This is because some of the poorest countries in the world use more than half of their wealth in purchasing weapons and arms. This sum of money is being diverted from being used to end hunger and poverty and it therefore detracts from the goal of global peace. The money used in buying arms could provide education to every child in the world and reduce child mortality rates by two-thirds. As a result of the overuse of money in purchasing weapons and not using it for constructive, peaceful purposes, over a billion people survive on less than a dollar a day, one fifth of children in the world have to drop out of school and eight million people suffer from chronic hunger. With the proper use of resources by countries, however, we could have peace across the world.

The countries that have major conflicts going on now are Colombia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. All of these countries are quite poor. It makes it harder for them to have peace because of their poverty. If they use all their money for conflicts, they won't have enough to meet their basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter. There can be no peace unless basic needs are fulfilled.

What is peace and how do we achieve it? Peace is something where there is justice, freedom and nonviolence. It is more than just the absence of war. Some quotes on peace are: 'Peace is more than simply the absence of war, it's the presence of justice,' by Martin Luther King Jr and 'There is no way to peace, peace is the was' by Mahatma Gandhi.

Why is peace important? Peace is very important for us. It is important for us to live a peaceful life and not always be in the middle of a conflict. Also if we have peace, we will learn to cooperate.

We also need peace so that we do not have conflicts. Conflicts do a lot of damage to society. After a war, cities are damaged and have to be rebuilt. Also, thousands of people die and millions more get injured. The hospitals are full and there are injured people everywhere.

There are many ways to achieve peace. First, we should try and reduce conflicts and war. In order to do this, we have to see the cause of the conflict. Then, depending on the problem, the people should have a solution. For example, if Hitler started a war because he wanted to conquer land around Germany, people should not give in to his decision. They should not start fighting immediately. Groups of people should protest and say that waging a war is incorrect. They should try to convince the person who wants to fight, through protests and other means, that violence is not the way to make himself/herself stronger.

Secondly, to achieve peace, conflicts must be avoided. Conflicts only arise when one person/side threatens to fight and the other person/side reacts. If there is no reaction, then there will be no conflict or fight. People like Mahatma Gandhi have proved this. Nonviolence was always Gandhi's strongest belief, and that's what got India its independence. This automatically brought a lot of peace to India. Gandhi never reacted towards the British's cruel punishments or torture used against him and his followers. He believed in steadily achieving his goal of bringing independence and peace to India. He also did not wage a war on the British because he knew that waging a war would not bring peace to India. This strategy of his worked to bring India its independence and peace.

The third point to achieve peace is that nations should not waste their money on purchasing arms. First of all, arms are only used to cause violence, death, and destruction. So, if countries buy weapons they are promoting wars and conflicts. Secondly, if countries use too much money in purchasing arms, they will not have money to provide their citizens with sufficient food, clothing and shelter. So, if a country uses almost all its money to purchase weapons, it will definitely not have peace in two or more ways. That's why countries should not purchase too many weapons.

The last point on how to achieve peace is to cooperate. When you cooperate with other countries, they cooperate with your country too. This is one of the best ways to achieve peace. With cooperation, there is a high chance of no conflicts. Have a bond with other countries: respect their culture, views and differences and there should not be a problem. Cooperation between countries has brought quite a lot of peace to the nations of the world.

Global peace is an important issue and we have to work hard to achieve it. I hope that this essay has highlighted the importance of global peace, the issues affecting global peace and the means to achieve it.
