What exactly is peace?

Kratika

We all ask ourselves: what exactly is peace?
A goal, a decision, or a prize to reach?
Skirmishes happen, for people old and new,
And soon they're resolved, but they get bigger, too.
The larger ones, are not just between a few,
But often between nations, it occurs, they do!
The ones even larger can turn into wars,
And life loses its value, blood often pours.
Because with every war comes violence,
And violence devastates all.
Yet we have to start afresh,
While war takes its toll.
We move towards the small, speck of light:
The small, though rejoicing, pleasant sight.
It represents hope, hope for those values,
Which hold a rainbow, and bring out vibrant hues
Those hues stand for freedom, satisfaction and peace.
For strength that we grasp, awaiting it all to cease.
But that peace is not an offer, it is to be attained,
And so far it has not been, only craved.
Coveted by the whole world, this planet Earth,
Peace has been wanted, since its birth.
But wanting or needing such a quality isn't enough,
We have to go through times, hard and rough.
When brothers fight brothers, for a reason unknown,
A man stands as one, weeping profusely alone.
Not a shoulder to rest on, to cry or depend.
Others are gone, and have no shoulder to lend.
But we have to step hand in hand, soul to soul,
To move past this era, eyes open or closed.
Improving the future requires glancing at the past,
To follow our Mahatma, Gandhi, fast.
Follow his beautiful, nonviolent ways,
Obey his advice, which can cast on us the sun's rays.
But the whole world has to do this, as a single force.
'All for one and one for all', we obey and become our biggest source
Of everlasting friendship, small or large.
To save ourselves: we're on the verge!
We cannot go back and make a brand new start,
But we can start now and make a brand new end.
For it is only possible with the whole of our effort,
But if we try hard enough, our mistakes we can mend.
There are campaigns, and yes they do try,
The numbers are growing by and by.
But to save this life, we need many more,
Once we have those, towards peace we'll soar.
We have ideas, and we have plans
But we need actors, yet we have only fans.
Money is spent, for the 'bad' to decrease,
But there are billions on bombs and pennies on peace.
If as individuals, we do our part,
Maybe not on the planet, but there'll be peace in our hearts.
We look left and right for peace, everywhere and around
Yet the one place we don't look is in our hearts, way deep down.
We won't be cities or states, continents or nations,
And we won't be divided, exceed expectations.
There is a big chain, and it begins from the soul
Then proceeds to a journey, to each boy and girl.
This is our dream, to be turned into reality.
Fulfilling it means leaving out the black,
Doing it till the end, however it be.
We've got to keep going, not turning our back.
In the midst of all these hard efforts and work,
We'll find our destination: heaven on Earth.
We'll all be God's angels, flowing with good,
It'll be as perfect as nothing else could.
But we won't find this with a bang, a boom or whatnot.
It'll start with tranquility, and then drip what we want.
We'll replace the dark wall with one tranquil and strong,
To keep in all the goodness and peace, for long.
With a wall so strong, each brick a masterpiece,
A wall to keep in all the goodness in peace.
We'll appreciate it, regretting all those wasted years,
When we only thought about the plans, and then let them through our ears.
You must be the change to seek it in another,
So start yourself before you tell anyone to bother.
A beautiful life, an Earth that is one,
I have started, but have your contributions begun?
