Why we need peace

Our planet has a problem. A few foolish people insist upon ruining our safety and harming us all.

War does not happen in only one country. Even if the most you see of a war is on the television, you are still involved! War affects everyone.

While it may not physically harm you, war eats at our environment, which is what we all depend on to survive. War eats away at the Earth's supplies, like water, food and shelter.

On 17 March 1945, 331 American B-bombers launched an attack on Kobe, Japan. More than 650,000 homes were destroyed, and a million more damaged. We need to stop this nonsense before it kills us all, one way or another.

People have war for a number of different reasons, but some of the main causes are money, land, and resources, such as oil. Apart from the obvious problems war brings, there are a few others, such as contributing to the world's resources running out. War uses up water and food, and leads to a lot of destruction. This leads us to the second, less noticed problem: pollution.

In many places today, there are still areas full of landmines, where a simple stroll can be your death sentence, or result in your arms and legs being blown off. You need experienced guides to show you through these areas, and I shudder to think how they got their experience. There are also other places, where unexploded bullets and gun shells can put you in a nasty position.

Money is spent pointlessly on bigger guns and better explosives. World leaders should instead be using this money on food for the less fortunate, or on other things that could actually help people.

If everyone pitched in a little, or even a lot, I'm sure that our world could become a better place.

To finish off I would like to leave you with some quotes about peace: 'Peace is a small word with a big meaning' and 'Peace cannot be made by power, for it starts in the heart of people.'
