I see the dead on the ground,
I feel scared and fearful.
I smell the blood of the dead.
I hear the screams of the dying.
I taste the blood in my mouth.
I think this is madness:
MADNESS!

Peace is a family

I see myself crying for my Dad.
I smell the perfume he wears everyday.
I feel his warm hug and I feel peace.
I taste my tears drizzling down my face.

Now when I read this I cry.

But why?

Dear friends,
This poem is about my dad. Right now he is overseas and he has been there for five months. He is in a place called Kurdistan, which is part of Iraq. I cry because I miss him but I know he will return to Australia soon ..... I hope.

I think of: happiness, no war, caring, always trying, sharing, joy. I feel: sad for people who don't live in peace. I smell: nature, flowers, trees. I taste: joy! I see: nature, happy people. I wonder: if any country can live in peace for a long time.

Wonder: Why do people litter and waste our land? Why do people kill animals in the world? Why can't people save water?

I think - I should keep growing roses till I have a garden full of them.

I don't see war.

I don't hear rifles, tanks and the army.
I don't smell the tension of if they survive,
I don't smell the blood, sweat and tears.
I don't taste the smoke and the dust of grenades in the air.
I don't feel threatened by anyone.
I don't think there is anyone to threaten us.

I hear the birds singing and people saying 'are you ok' to each other.
I smell the trees and the trust in people.
I taste the fresh fruits of the trees.
I feel the love from people and especially from my family.
I think of justice and how much people care about each other.
