Why I am a global citizen

Am I a global citizen? Yes, I am a global citizen because of the following reasons.

I recycle in order to protect the environment. The world is running out of landfill sites to dump waste so, if you recycle, we will not need as many landfill sites. I also recycle paper because paper comes from trees and lots of them get cut down every year. To be precise, about four billion trees are cut down every year to make paper products. If we continue to cut down trees, we will not have enough oxygen and will have more carbon dioxide in the air.

I try not to pollute too much because pollution causes problems all over the world. If you drive to school, you could be affecting people in the Ivory Coast. The fumes from your car are heating up the atmosphere, which melts the icebergs in the North Pole and this causes the sea level to rise. Then, a town in the Ivory Coast could get flooded and their businesses would get washed away and then they would become poor.

I donate money to charities, such as Children in Need, to help people who do not have enough money, so that they do not starve and go hungry. I also donate old clothes. The reason I donate is because there are many children who have to go to work to support their families, as they don’t have enough money to feed themselves.

At school, I study about different countries and their cultures and religions. I respect what they do and what they believe. Learning about this helps me understand people more easily.

I am also a global citizen because of my identity. My family is originally from Somalia, although I have never lived there. However, I have family there who tell me about where they live and what they do. In Somalia, there is a lot of violence and most schools are run-down. There are lots of gang wars. In comparison to my life here in the United Kingdom, it is very different because there are not that many run-down schools here.
