Global citizens care about the Earth, what goes on in it and the people in it. Here at Woodchurch High School we care by:

  • celebrating differences between people
  • having a link with Kanah High School in Uganda
  • recycling because it will help to reduce carbon emissions and the school’s carbon footprint
  • raising money and donating things to help people here and in other countries to be more sustainable.

We have had our link with Kanah High School for over 18 months now. We have sent and received letters, made displays and had a competition to put the two school crests together. Two of our teachers visited Uganda for a week and they have done assemblies with photos and films to show us what it is like. We are having cake sales and non-uniform days and have raised enough money for the school to get its own borehole for water. We also had an Africa Day and we learnt about Africa in all the different subjects.

As global citizens we are against:

  • pollution
  • global warming
  • war and conflicts
  • poverty
  • discrimination such as racism and against disabled people
  • world hunger
  • preventable diseases

We like this African proverb: 'If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito'.

Together we can change the world!
