Hey guys, there aren’t that many rules!
First, you need to aged between 5 and 18-years-old to take part in this online conference.
The next most important rule is to ‘be friendly and respectful’. Everyone here has joined the online conference with the idea of improving school for everyone. Not everyone will have the same ideas on how to do that – and you might strongly disagree with the ideas of some people – but we also need to respect the right of everyone to make the positive suggestions he or she think will work. And apart from that, we all want to have fun and enjoy the chance to chat with other students from around the world.
The second rule is about privacy. We wish we didn’t have to make this sort of rule but we need to make absolutely sure your personal contact details aren’t out there on the internet for everyone to see. So, for this online conference, this strict rule is: ‘no surnames, no email addresses or personal website addresses, and no other personal contact details, such as telephone numbers’. Sticking to this rule is one of the conditions you must agree to in participating in this online conference.
The third rule is about being nice. I’m sure that there are things about your school that you’re not happy with. There might even be some things that you’re really angry about. However, even if that’s the case, please don’t get personal or mean. Teacher’s names or the names of other students should not be mentioned – or any descriptions that will identify particular people at school and make them feel embarrassed.
The last rule isn’t really a rule – it’s just a bit of nagging! This online conference is a chance for you to share your ideas with a huge audience of students in many countries. Sure, you can sit back and watch others chat online – but it’s heaps more fun if you throw away your shyness and have a chat to others in the online discussions. It’s the same old thing you hear a lot from your teachers and parents – if you put a lot in, then you get a lot back.
That’s the end of the rules!
