Description
Education is in a state of change. Teachers will tell you that there are so many initiatives that they sometimes feel like the rug is being pulled out from under their feet - as they're teaching! Evaluation of change when you're in the middle of it is hard, but we should endeavour to all be heading in the same general direction. My observation of teaching is that we are all headed on our own pathway to improved educational outcomes.
Increasingly, this is being achieved through differentiated curricula, independent learning, rich tasks, and so on, where there is flexibility in the learning and students have more control. At the same time, our students are increasingly vocal and demanding with regard to their education - not for greater rigour but for greater relevance and integration with their life outside of the classroom. In this website I propose one possible scenario for a future school - it needs to be more than a new type of building; it needs to be a new way of teaching and learning.
