Leadership in Focus

Leadership in Focus is a quarterly professional development paper-based journal for Australasian school leaders working in schools from preparatory to year 12 level. Articles in Leadership in Focus centre on issues, trends, debates, reforms, research and developments in primary and secondary education (at the school, district, regional, national, State/Territory and international levels) that impact on schools and the work of practising school leaders.

The editorial board is seeking short articles (500-2,500 words) and photos for forthcoming issues of the journal. For detailed advice on how to write an article for professional colleagues, read Debra Crouch's writing guide.

Schools leaders, working in a range of leadership roles, and at all levels, are encouraged to submit articles for possible publication in the journal. However, the editorial board also warmly welcomes articles of significant interest to school leaders written by other educators, education policy-makers and education academics.

Writers should base their articles on their own area of interest and expertise (keeping in mind current issues, trends, debates, reforms, research and developments in education and educational leadership).

The journal’s target audience is, of course, practising school leaders throughout Australasia. If you are not an Australian writer, some background information about your country’s education system and/or your school may be necessary at the beginning of your article.  Any recommendations you might make to school leaders, based on your experience, knowledge or research would be most appreciated.

Articles should be emailed directly to the Executive Editor, Ms Debra Crouch (as attached Word files or as plain email messages) at: brydon@cybertext.net.au

Articles should not be formatted (e.g., columns, borders, etc.). Tables or graphs should not be included but should be explained as text. Acronyms should be spelled out in full the first time they are used, for the benefit of interstate or overseas readers. Only short reference lists can be included and titles may be changed to suit the style of the journal. All submitted articles, once selected for publication, may be edited for clarity, length or preferred grammatical style. Photos to accompany articles are especially welcome and should be sent at the same time as the article (as separate attachments to the text). They should not be embedded in the article itself but emailed separately, as attached jpeg files, saved at the highest possible resolution. Once submitted, articles will be reviewed by the editorial board for possible publication in a forthcoming issue.

Prospective writers who wish to discuss a possible topic, or who would like to review a copy of Leadership in Focus before commencing writing, should email Ms Crouch with their request.  Otherwise, articles should be emailed directly to her and their receipt will be confirmed by return email.

Articles up to 2500 words can be submitted for possible publication at any time throughout the year. Email unformatted articles with an ‘About the author’ paragraph and all online and postal contact details at the end to: debra@cybertext.net.au. A national editorial board of P-12 school principals meets twice a year to select articles for forthcoming issues. Writers whose articles are selected for publication are advised in writing and will receive a hard copy of the relevant journal once it is printed.
